For the past 15+ years we have strived to create a safe haven where students can attend an after school program where they have fun and feel as if they are part of a loving and caring family. We have worked hard to nurture and expand that vision to include a summer camp program. It is with profound sadness that we share with you our decision about this summer.

After consultation with Federal, State and Local experts in government and public health fields and thoughtful discussions with adjacent camp directors, we have decided that TASC will have to close for the summer of 2020. It is impossible for us to open and at the same time protect the health and safety of students, staff and the local community. In addition the still evolving State and Local guidelines involving COVID-19 make it practically impossible for the TASC community to operate in full compliance.  We just do not see a way for TASC to bring everyone together at Cottle and still run camp in the fun and enriching way we all love while guaranteeing everyone's safety.

For months we have planned for Summer Camp in anticipation of our time together but unfortunately the uncertainty of COVID has caught up to summer camps. In coming to this decision we looked at the TASC summer camp experience from all angles. Could we have smaller group sizes and only allow to students to interact with the students in their group? Could we still offer enrichment activities without the use of outside instructors and head counselors? Could we get snack deliveries with little to no contact? Could we ask students and staff to not attend other activities and outings while attending TASC camp? Ultimately we decided we could not conduct TASC Camp in the exceptional way we all know while meeting the health and safety guidelines.

At TASC we teach the students to be resilient and to strive to make the best of all situations. Whether it's playing bucket ball till they are able to make the winning shot, trying new activities they are unsure of like Yoga or moving outside their comfort zone to make new friends within their camp group. The TASC students have learned resilience and how to strive, grow and be positive through all adversities.  Not having camp this summer is certainly testing our resilience.

It is okay for us all to be upset, angry and disappointed about the canceling of camp this summer. All we can do is hope and prepare for the return of TASC camp in 2021 and work hard to ensure the TASC before and after school program is ready to operate when schools reopen in the fall.

We will miss you all this summer! Keep an eye out in July for information regarding 2020-21 school year registration.

We also would like to ask our TASC families to continue to advocate for the TASC program and make sure the Tuckahoe School District and Board of Education know the important role the TASC program plays for Tuckahoe families and how crucial it is for the program to reopen with Cottle in the fall.

We have an extensive network of counselors who are highly trained and will be looking for summer employment. Please email us if your family is looking for a babysitter this summer and would like to be paired with a TASC counselor.

Here's to hoping we are all reunited soon!
